Searching “Virgin Ice” 2020, part 1

Time had come to head northbound to find the black ice. In the south of Sweden November is mild and grey. Our goal was the mountain region in Härjedalen, 600 km from where we live. The dream was black ice surrounded by snow covered mountains.

  • From autumn in the south of Sweden to "Winter Wonderland" with rein deers.

A new day and new hope…

  • Måns Ers Tjärnen - a short walk in the snow to this wonderful gem.

Due to snowfall in Härjedalen we decided to head 200 km south, to north west Dalarna, where there was no snow. The weather forecast showed temperatures below zero and no precipitation the coming 5 – 6 days. Our search of ongoing freezing lakes started.

  • Our first lake to test. The lake was covered with ice!

We were out at sunrise our first day in county Dalarna. Near our cottage we found this wonderful little pond in the marshes.

  • The frost was glittering in the grass and the pond was shining in the distance.

Thursday the 26th of November is our first day on ice. Magic! The cold had made its job.

  • The first skating in sunset on black, smooth ice.

To be continued!
